Central Subway/Chinatown Stations
Thursday 28 April 2016 - Half Day
In the heart of San Francisco, the Central Subway Project is underway to construct a modern, efficient light-rail line that will improve public transportation. This new 1.7-mile extension of Muni’s T Third Line will provide direct connections to major retail, sporting and cultural venues while efficiently transporting people to jobs, educational opportunities and other amenities throughout the city. With stops in South of Market (SoMa), Yerba Buena/Moscone Center, Union Square and Chinatown, the Central Subway will vastly improve transit options for the residents of one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in the country, provide a rapid transit link to a burgeoning technology and digital-media hub and improve access to a premier commercial district and tourist attraction. The tour will include overview presentations on the Central Subway Tunnels and Stations contracts including geology, design and construction. The site tour will be into the Chinatown Station Headhouse excavation that accesses the SEM station cavern to be constructed by tunneling beneath the center of Chinatown in a very dense urban setting.
Steel-toed work boots, safety vest, hard hat and safety glasses are required. Tutor may provide safety vest, hard hat and safety glasses if needed.
